Phnom Penh, Cambodia — The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) proudly announced the official integration of the Bakong Tourists app with Visa, marking a significant advancement in the country’s digital payment ecosystem. This new collaboration expands payment options for international tourists, enabling seamless and secure transactions across the Kingdom.
Originally launched in November 2023, the Bakong Tourists app now allows travelers to link their Visa cards from their home countries and make payments using KHQR codes at over 4.5 million merchants nationwide. In addition to facilitating payments, the app enables users to transfer funds directly to their Bakong accounts, providing a cashless alternative for everyday transactions.
The launch ceremony, presided over by NBC Governor Dr. Chea Serey, was attended by approximately 300 distinguished participants, including representatives from government ministries, international payment firms, and leading private sector companies.
This integration reflects a joint commitment to modernize Cambodia’s financial infrastructure, reduce reliance on physical currency, and promote the use of the Khmer Riel. It aligns with the broader goal of enhancing the country’s digital payment ecosystem to support both tourists and local businesses.
“The collaboration between Bakong and Visa represents a milestone in our journey towards fostering a cashless economy,” said Dr. Chea Serey. “By offering innovative solutions tailored for international visitors, we are strengthening Cambodia's position as a global tourist destination with efficient and inclusive financial services.”
This initiative underscores ongoing efforts to improve the digital payment landscape, ensuring greater convenience, security, and accessibility for travelers while benefiting Cambodia’s growing tourism and commerce sectors.
