The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration is set to launch the highly anticipated Walking Street along the riverbank, with its first phase officially opening on February 1, 2025.
Spanning from the Cambodian Post Office to the Royal Palace (Street 240), the pedestrian-only area will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
The announcement was made during a progress review meeting on January 29, 2025, led by Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and other relevant authorities at Phnom Penh City Hall.
Governor Khuong Sreng revealed that the project had been in the works since 2019 but was temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following instructions from the Royal Government, the municipal administration has now revived the plan to boost tourism and enhance the city’s appeal to both local and international visitors.
He reaffirmed that the Walking Street project will officially launch on February 1, 2025, operating every weekend in its initial phase. The street will be closed to all vehicle traffic, ensuring a safe and vibrant atmosphere for pedestrians. Public restrooms will be installed, and the area will be well-organized to create an enjoyable experience for visitors.
In preparation for the launch, authorities will conduct public awareness campaigns to inform local residents about the project. Strict enforcement will be in place to ensure that vehicles do not enter the designated pedestrian area during operating hours.
With its lively ambiance and scenic riverfront setting, Walking Street is expected to become a major attraction, drawing both domestic and international tourists to Phnom Penh.
