8:00 AM: Our adventure begins as we depart Siem Reap on a journey to uncover the secrets of Cambodia's past.
Koh Ker: A Lost Capital Revealed
Our first destination is Koh Ker, a once-grand capital city hidden amidst the Cambodian jungle, roughly 110 kilometers from Siem Reap. Built by King Jayavarman IV in the 10th century, this fascinating site served as a center of worship for Treypuvanesvara, the God of Happiness.
Prepare to be awestruck by the towering Koh Ker Temple, a unique structure unlike any other in the Angkor region. Standing at a majestic 35 meters tall, it features a seven-tiered pyramid design resembling a stupa, a monument traditionally associated with Buddhist relics.
Lunch Break
After exploring Koh Ker, we'll take a well-deserved break to refuel with a delicious local lunch.
Beng Mealea: Nature's Embrace
On our return journey, we'll delve deeper into the jungle to discover Beng Mealea, a captivating temple partially reclaimed by nature. Embark on a short trek through the lush foliage, where towering trees and vibrant greenery create a truly mystical atmosphere.
As we navigate moss-covered archways and climb over ancient vines, we'll uncover the temple's hidden beauty. Explore intricate carvings and step into inner chambers, each offering a glimpse into the remarkable history of this forgotten site.
