Itinerary

Upon arrival to Phnom Penh airport, you will meet your guide and transfer to check in your hotel. In the afternoon, visit to the Central Market of Phnom Penh (locally known as Phsar Thmei in Khmer and a ‘New Market’ in English). We then continue to visit Wat Phnom (or Hill Temple), the most famous temple in the city. A small hill crowned by an active wat (pagoda) marks the legendary founding place of the Phnom Penh (If time permits) Overnight at Phnom Penh

Morning visit Royal Palace, This graceful structure is very much a focus of the city. Standing on the site of the former citadel, it was built for King Norodom in front of the Mekong. Inside its walls are the Throne Hall, the Chan Chaya Pavillion, the Napoleon III Pavillion, and the King's and Queen's residential quarters. Today, only the Silver Pagoda is open. The Silver Pagoda is a gilltering chamber of royal treasures, also known as the Pagoda of the Emerald Buddha. Inside, its floor is made up of 5,000 silver tiles, each weighing 1kg. Inside are some of the country's most cherished treasures, including a life-size gold Buddha studded with 9584 diamonds, the largest weighing 25 carats. There is also a delicate emerald Buddha made of baccarat crystal, which gives the temple its Khmer name of Wat Preah Keo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). The walls enclosing the pagoda are covered with ancient frescoes depicting episodes from the Ramayana. Afternoon transfer to 12 Km from Siem Reap to visit Killing Fields. Most of the 17,000 people detained at Tuol Sleng were eventually transported to Choeung Ek, a mass grave site located 15km outside Phnom Penh. Known to locals as the Killing Fields, Choeung Ek serves as a memorial to those killed under the Khmer Rouge rule. An old Chinese cemetery, Choeung Ek was turned into an extermination camp for political prisoners. The remains of 8985 people were exhumed from mass graves and are kept in a memorial stupa here. Despite the horrors of the past, it is a peaceful place to go and a tranquil spot to reflect on the tragic events that engulfed Cambodia and its people. Back to your hotel in Phnom Penh. Overnight at Phnom Penh

Meet with tour guide and transfer to the Kampong Thom via Kampong Cham by private car. On the way stop to visit Skun. Kampong Cham is a lively port on the banks of the Mekong River with some good examples of colonial-era architecture. After visiting the Local Market and exploring the town, travel in to the countryside to Phnom Pros ("Man Hill") and Phnom Srei ("Woman Hill"). According to local tradition, two teams of men and women competed to build a stupa on the summit of each hill before dawn. After being tricked into thinking that daybreak had already come, the men lost the competition and, as a result, forever after had to be the ones to approach the women for their hands in marriage. Continue to Wat Norkor Bacheay, a thriving modern-day monastery founded on a 11th century Mahayana Buddhist shrine. By vehicle from Kampong Cham to Kampong Thom (138KM from Kampong Cham). Continue to the modern-day shrines of Wat Andri, a thriving monastery, and climb the 980 steps of the holy mountain Phnom Santuk, enjoying the colorful, somewhat ecletic shrine at the peak as well as lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Overnight at Kampong Thom

Visit Sambor Prei Kuk: Sambor Prei Kuk, which is dotted with hundred Pre-Angkor styled temples. The site, part of the Chenla Kingdom, includes an area of nearly 1000 acres enclosed by double walls, and hundreds temples and towers; its construction predates Angkor Wat by several centuries. The road conditions are very poor, but the spectacular scenery, with a mixture of temples and forest makes the hardship all worthwhile. After seeing this landmark we make our way towards Siem Reap and pass through various Khmer traditional villages. On route you may wish to stop off in Kampong Kdei, to look at Spean Pratos – an ancient Angkorian bridge. About 35km from Siem Reap we turn on brand new road that leads to the edge of the lake. Before arriving Siem Reap, we take a local boat to Kampong Khleang, meaning the village of the stilts, a lively commercial fishing village located south on the edge of the Tonle Sap lake. All houses are stilted and some are up to four & five meters tall. Enter the stilted village, now flooded and travel through this large town through to a more separate Vietnamese village on to the edge of the Tonle Sap. Overnight at Siem Reap

In the afternoon, visit Beng Mealea temple, built By Jayarvaman VII; in the style of Angkor Wat; its scale is huge; being well over one square Kilometre within its moat. Approached by a four cause ways; Beng Mealea appears to be a huge pile of rubble partially hidden in the trees. Once you get closer the high walls, the ancient Khmer Architecture reveals itself. Cloaked in vegetation and with few concessions to tourism; this temple looks like it would have done when the early French explorers found it. Overnight at Siem Reap
