"Region 2 Nursery Station" Spanning an expansive 10-hectare landscape and engineered with the capacity to cultivate 3 million tree seedlings annually, this ambitious tree nursery project is strategically planned to commence construction in early 2025. The nursery will be situated within the geographical area of Preah Jayavarman Narottam Phnom Kulen, Siem Reap province. Currently, the master construction plan for this nursery has been fully prepared under the initiative of Mr. Ang Sophallet, the Minister of Environment.
According to Mr. Ang Sophallet, the creation of this regional-scale nursery station aims to expand green cover by encouraging citizen participation in tree planting across the entire country, with the forward-looking vision of transforming Cambodia into a nation with extensive forest coverage and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Beyond its green initiatives, this expansive tree nursery will also play a strategic role in attracting tourists and generating income for local communities within protected natural areas, through the "Green Leisure" concept that the ministry is actively promoting. The implementation of this "Green Leisure" approach is designed with multifaceted objectives: effectively managing natural resources, preserving biodiversity, enhancing local residents' livelihoods, mitigating climate change, and transforming Cambodia into a pristine, verdant landscape.
The Ministry of Environment has distributed over 1.3 million seedlings to the public free of charge. Among these, over 860,000 are forest trees, 90,000 are fruit-bearing trees, and 350,000 are palm seedlings. Currently, the Ministry of Environment has established five regional seedling stations: 3 hectares in Tboung Khmum, 10 hectares in Siem Reap, 20 hectares in Kampong Speu, 10 hectares in Mondulkiri, and 3 hectares in Koh Kong.
