The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) is taking steps to improve the experience of international tourists visiting Siem Reap.

Here's a breakdown of the key measures:

  • Free Exchange of Old Dollars: All commercial banks in Siem Reap must now exchange old US dollars for customers free of charge. This ensures tourists have access to usable currency.
  • More $20 and $50 Bills in ATMs: Banks in Siem Reap will prioritize stocking ATMs with $20 and $50 denominations, catering to typical tourist spending habits.
  • Streamlined Exchange Process: For very old or damaged bills, Siem Reap banks can now directly exchange them for new notes, eliminating the need to send them to Phnom Penh headquarters.
  • Promoting Bakong Tourist App: The NBC encourages tourists to use the Bakong Tourist App for convenient and secure payments.
  • Standardized Vending Machines: The NBC is working to establish consistent standards for both the National Bank and commercial bank vending machines.

These measures aim to:

  • Facilitate tourist spending: By ensuring access to usable currency and convenient payment options.
  • Improve tourist experience: By streamlining currency exchange and promoting cashless payment options.
  • Boost Cambodia's tourism sector: By providing a smoother and more welcoming environment for international visitors
